FAQ’s

FAQ’s

1) How do I play?

Easy. Pick six (6) sentences from anything you like (it can be from a Work in Progress (WiP), something you recently sold, something you hope to sell or even something already under contract and available for purchase – and don’t worry, Six Sentence Sunday is for published AND unpublished writers). Then post them on your blog on Sunday. That’s all there is to it!

2) I don’t have a website or blog, can I still play?

Unfortunately, no. Rule #1 clearly states to “post them to your blog” and this rule holds true to this day. Facebook walls/Like pages/groups, Twitter, LinkedIn, and pretty much any social networking site aren’t allowed. It’s easy (and often free) to get up a blog at various places around the ‘net (great article from Mashable about 40 different free blog sites). And really, if you’re a published author, you should have a website at the least and if you’re an aspiring author, same goes.

3) How do I get my link added to the Sunday post?

A post will be live from 6 pm (EST) Tuesday to 11:59 (EST) Saturday for you to fill out the information and submit. That post will then be removed, the information collected and it will go live at 9am EST each Sunday. Please note, it’s not a requirement to participate each week. Places are on a first come, first served basis. Also, commenting on the sign up post does not actually sign you up for that week. Just follow the link provided. By adding your name to the link list each week, you agree to abide by the rules found on this page.

4) I write under various pen names, or have multiple books published, can I post six sentences from each of them in one post?

No, you can’t. And here’s why. That doesn’t follow the “six” rule. Many participants are multi-published, or write under different pen names, have multiple sites and everyone has to follow the same rules. Six sentences from one author. Basically, one post per person regardless if you publish under multiple names and have multiple sites. Don’t be greedy, please.

5) Am I required to link to other contributors?

No. A link back to the site here would be great to let people know where you heard about the idea, but you aren’t required to list the week’s posters on your post. The Six Sunday website is the “anchor” site.

6) When is my post required to be posted?

Before 9 am (EST) each Sunday  - that’s when the Six Sunday post goes live (remember that overseas folks!). Six Sentence Sunday administrators will check each link and your post is not active at 9 am (EST), you will be deleted from the week’s post. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please have a little courtesy, if you sign up–post. Most blogging platforms today have a scheduling feature that allows you to schedule a post in advance without having to actually be anywhere near the computer. If you’re not sure how to do this, feel free to email and ask us–we’d be happy to help!

7) How do I get my name/website added to the participating writers on the left column of the front page?

After you’ve participated a few times (i.e. more than once–typically we like to see a month worth of participation), email us  with your name and preferred website address. Once it’s verified you’re a regular contributor you’ll be notified that you’re added. We’re not accepting names for the list at this time.

8) I’m on Twitter, can I share the love?

Yes! Add the hashtag #sixsunday to your tweets about Six Sentence Sunday. You can follow the official Six Sentence Sunday twitter at: https://twitter.com/6_Sunday

9) I want to share my news of a fabulous review, or this just downright awesome blurb. Can I do that?

Here, on the Six Sentence Sunday site, we only provide a link to your offering for the week. If the link that you submit for the week is simply a link to only one of these things, it will not be included in the weekly post. This is for Six Sunday links only. Please do not provide any extraneous information with your Six Sentence Sunday link (such as trailers, blurbs, excerpts, etc). We are happy for you, truly–but just remember, it makes it difficult for readers to weed through this information to find your six sentences.

10) I don’t feel six sentences is enough to convey what I want the reader to feel, so I’m going to post an excerpt under my six sentences, that’ll really snag the readers attention!

It will also snag the attention of the admins for Six Sentence Sunday who will remove your link from the list for a violation of the rules…

11) I made an error in my link when I signed up, can you help?

Yes! Just send an email and let us know what the correct link should be. It’s an easy fix, so please don’t think you’re fixing it by simply adding another link. That just confuses matters and both links will be removed.

12) I want to get a jump on things by posting my Six Sentence Sunday post very early, is that allowed?

No, it’s not. Six Sentence Sunday. Posting any other day ruins the spirit of Six Sentence Sunday and defeats the whole purpose of why this was set up in the first place. We share sentences on Sunday, it’s actually really quite simple. Now, that being said, we do recognize not everyone lives in the same time zone. So Sunday to someone else is still our Saturday. That’s fine and perfectly acceptable. But please don’t confuse Wednesday with Sunday.

13) My post was removed for (insert reason here), will you re-instate it now that I’ve fixed it?

There are seven Six Sentence Admins who go through and count sentences and verify each and every single link to make certain posts are in compliance. If they report something back, another admin verifies their findings in order to collect a second opinion. If they are in agreement, the link is removed from the list for that week. We’ll be happy to explain why a link was removed if there is a question, however, links are not re-instated once they are removed, even if the error on the post is corrected.

Please contact us for more any details or questions you have that may not be covered by the above.
